Julia Jo "Judy" Lancaster Smoot

February 5, 1946 — April 11, 2021

Judy Smoot, 75, of Garner, passed away from dementia, at her home. She was born and raised in Wilson, North Carolina, to the late Roxanna Hales Lancaster and John Lancaster. She is survived by her husband, Edward Smoot; daughters, Julianna Smoot (Lon Johnson) of Detroit, MI, Sarah Smoot Feighery (Tim Feighery) of Alexandria, VA, and Betsy Smoot (Jeromy Watkins) of Birmingham, AL; 6 grandchildren, Finn, Teddy, and Anne Feighery, and Libby, Maggie, and Henry Smoot-Watkins; her siblings John Lancaster (Kathy) of Dallas, TX, Wrenna Barney (Andy) of Clemmons, NC, and Walt Lancaster (Rita) of High Point, NC; and her beloved nieces and nephews. She graduated from Ralph L. Fike High School in 1964, then attended UNC-Greensboro, Atlantic Christian College, and finished her Bachelor’s Degree in Early Education at Campbell University. Her teaching career spanned 33 years in Clinton and Wake County, NC. She was awarded teacher of the year several times and was beloved by her colleagues and students. A memorial service will be held on Friday, April 16, at 11am at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home at 1200 Benson Rd in Garner, NC. Masks are required.
