Garner – Julia Nell Murray passed away peacefully on Sunday Morning, July 18, 2021. Born in Wake County, NC on August 26, 1934, she was the daughter of the late Callie Franklin and Iola Christine Johnson Guy. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband, Hubert Leon Murray, her sister, Rose Marie Guy Wood and brothers, Reginald Eugene Guy, and Graham Gerald Guy. Julia was a 1952 graduate of Garner High School. Although she began her working career with the State of North Carolina in the Departments of Revenue and Agriculture, she truly found her calling and joy as the “face” of Fred A. Smith Elementary School. She retired after 31 years as the school secretary. She loved being around children and treasured her relationships with the teachers and staff. Upon retirement, Julia and Hubert enjoyed spoiling their grandchildren, trios to their place in Surf City, and doing wood-working projects. She became quite accomplished with decorative painting. She also loved crocheting beautiful afghans for family members, especially for the new babies. Julia was a lovely lady, generous in spirit and welcoming with open arms, especially those that needed help. She truly adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Upon the death of her younger sister Rose Marie, she became the surrogate mother and grandmother to her niece and nephews and their children. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Deborah and Carson Carmichael, III, Grandson Davis Alexander Carmichael, grandson Neil McCall Carmichael (Tara Lynn Vail), and great-grandchildren Julia Katherine and Carson John Carmichael. She is also survived by many dear nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff at Morningside for their compassionate care given to Julia during her stay there. The funeral service will be held at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home on Hwy 50 in Garner, NC on Wednesday, July 21, 2021. The visitation will be held at 10:00 am with the funeral service at 11:00 am.
