GARNER - Julia Thornton Strickland, 83, retired cafeteria manager at Vandora Springs Elementary School, died Sunday at her home. A native of Sampson Co., she was the daughter of the late Marvin and Maude Parson Thornton. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Tuesday at Palmer Memorial Freewill Baptist Church. Burial, Montlawn Memorial Park.Surviving: her husband of 64 years, J. D. Strickland; daughters, Gail Strickland Baker of Franklinton and Vickie Strickland Summers of Garner; son, Ronnie G. Strickland of Garner; sisters, Betty Elliott and Ann Stewart, both of Dunn; brother, James Kirby Thornton of Sebastian, FL; grandchildren, Jimmy Hanson, Tisha Strickland, Kristie Morgan, Justin Summers, Sherry S. Gerrell and Jamie S. Shepard; 10 great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her siblings, J. C. Thornton, Grace Cramer, J. W. Thornton, Billy Ray Thornton, Marvin G. Bill Thornton, Jr. and Ethel Denton.Family will receive friends 6:00 - 8:00 PM Monday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner.
