June Mason Gibson

RALEIGH – June Mason Gibson, 90, formerly of New Lexington, Ohio, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday. Honey June, as she was lovingly called by her great-grandchildren, was born in Pineville, KY to the late Huey and Della Mae Smallwood Mason. She was the 1st of 10 children born of the union. She was preceded in death by her husband, George Gibson in 1984; her infant sister, Eunice Mason; sisters, Myrtle Ward, Mildred Hibbard and brother, Kelly Mason. Survivors include her son, Arliss Gibson (Elaine) of New Lexington, OH; daughters, Phyllis Barnard (Fred) of Holly Springs, and Wanda Penninger of Raleigh; grandchildren, Shawn Hatem (Melisa) of Pickerington, OH, Jeff Barnard (Jaime) of Lexington, SC, Michelle P. Jones (Kevin) of Marietta, GA, Cherie P. Skinner (Gerald) of Raleigh and Ben Gibson (Jonna) of New Lexington, OH; great-grandchildren, Julianna and Isla Hatem of Pickerington, OH, Madisyn, Tyler and Andrew Barnard of Lexington, SC, Lila Jones of Marietta, GA, Jacob, Cole and Lily Skinner of Raleigh, Caden and Arleigh Gibson of New Lexington, OH; sisters, Shirley M. Dawson of Franklin, OH, Thelma M. Hush of Cincinnati, OH and Joann M. Jackson (Wendell) of Barboursville, KY; brothers, Ledford Mason (Marthie) of Franklin, OH and Ray Mason (Juanita) of Brimble, KY; sister-in-law, Gloria Mason of Franklin, OH; brothers-in-law, Vernon Hibbard of LaGrange, KY and Ernest Gibson of Barboursville, KY; as well as a host of nieces and nephews. A Graveside service will be held 2:00 pm Saturday, September 12th at The Memory Gardens Cemetery, New Lexington, OH. Rev. Larry Brisker will officiate. The family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff of Transitions Life Care of Raleigh, NC for the wonderful care they provided with a special thanks to Mary and Cornelia.
