Kathleen Joan Trant Adamo

October 6, 1948 — July 6, 2019

Kathleen Joan (Trant) Adamo left this earth for the comforts of heaven and eternal life on Saturday, July 6th, 2019. Her spirit is carried on by her loving and devoted husband Peter, her five children and their spouses, 18 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, five Trant siblings, large extended Trant and Adamo family, and close friends. All were touched by Kathleen’s gentle, loving spirit during her 70 years of life. We were privileged to know Kathleen, the third of six children born to Manus and Delores Trant, and to learn so many valuable lessons from her in her roles as loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, colleague, and friend during her lifetime. Kathleen lived a life grounded in faith, charity and compassion and, above all, taught us to love unconditionally. She taught humility and selflessness and, ultimately, taught us to show courage in the face of death. Kathleen loved to write. We were moved by the elegance in which she could arrange her words. She reminded us, through volumes of letters, poems and short stories, about the beauty found in the wonders of nature, in the magnificent, even in the mundane. Kathleen loved to laugh, and it was this winsome laughter, shrouded in her fierce love, that touched us the most. Kathleen wrote to everyone she knew, especially to her loving sisters, Arleen, Christine and Adrian, and brothers, Stephen and Richard, who she grew up with in Hicksville, New York. Their lifelong correspondence remained so heartfelt throughout, providing an invaluable record of the amount of love between Kathleen and her family. Most who knew her recall a letter or card that touched their heart, tickled their funny bone, or reminded them of the beauty found in each day. It was Peter Salvatore Adamo who captured Kathleen’s heart from the beginning of their days together. Meeting and falling in love in high school in the 1960s, theirs became a love that only grew over the course of fifty plus years, continuing beyond Kathleen’s final breaths at the Transitions Lifecare hospice in Raleigh, North Carolina, where Peter was always by her side. From Peter’s time serving in the United States Air Force, to their first year of marriage in Orlando, Florida, which saw the birth of their first child, and only daughter Alexa, followed by a return to Long Island, and the birth of three sons, Christopher, Matthew and Gregory, the young couple continued to grow in their love for each other, and in their faith and devotion to God. Their love only grew in strength upon their adventurous move to Blacksburg, Virginia in 1977, taking a chance on a construction business along with Peter’s twin brother, Michael. Kathleen, pregnant with her fifth child, Jason, left her family and her home state of New York behind, putting her faith in her husband and in a marital love so filled with hope and devotion. Peter and Kathleen survived that test, and the challenge of a new life, and continued to thrive as they grew in God’s love. Their journey together would culminate in a fifty-year marriage that showed us all that true love does exist, and even the wildest heart dedicated to it can overcome any obstacle that life can pose. The Adamo family thanks Newpath Church, Transitions Lifecare, and the many family members that have supported us during this difficult time. Flowers may be sent to Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, or in lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Transitions Lifecare at https://transitionslifecare.org/donate/ in Kathleen Adamo’s honor.
