Kathleen Langone

Raleigh - Kathleen Mary Jane Darcy Langone died of natural causes on June 7, 2012.She was born in Leominster, MA on October 16, 1924.She was the oldest daughter of Michael and Kathleen Darcy.In high school Kathleen played volleyball and basketball.She was a sharp-shooting forward on her schools basketball team.She was also friends with the author, Robert Cormier. In 1942, as part of the Greatest Generation, Kathleen worked at American Type Founders in Fitchburg, MA, making 75 mm guns and parts.After World War II, she attended Burdette College. She then went on to work at Tufts University in Boston and later at GE in Syracuse, NY.Kathleen was a devoted wife and mother. Surviving:one daughter, Katherine T. Lanio and her husband, Robert M. Lanio, of Durham; three sons, Thomas F. Langone of Durham, John E. Langone of Wilmington, NC, and Michael T. Langone and his wife, Teresa, of Graham; and three grandchildren, Matthew, Christina, and Ashley Langone of Graham. A graveside funeral service will be held Monday, June 11, at 11 A. M. at Salisbury National Cemetery in Salisbury, N. C. where her husband, Eugene, is buried.
