Kenneth George Evancie Kenneth George Evancie, 90, of Raleigh, died peacefully Friday, June 3, 2011.Ken was a kind, generous and giving person whose positive attitude and appreciative nature endeared him to everyone he met.He understood and taught his family the importance of sacrifice, hard work and a commitment to excellence.Ken was born August 31, 1920 in New York City, the son of John and Florence Evancie.He attended Theodore Roosevelt High School in the Bronx and graduated from Pace College in 1948 with a Bachelor of Business Arts degree.Ken served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945, attaining the rank of Master Sergeant, including time in the Third Army in the European Theatre of Operations.On May 29, 1948, he married Felicia Pinto in St. Anastasias Catholic Church in Douglaston, NY.Ken and Felicia moved to Pawling, NY in 1955, where Ken and Felicia raised their four children, and Ken joined the Pawling Rubber Corporation, where he served as Vice President / Treasurer and a member of the Board of Directors.He was licensed as a Certified Public Accountant in the State of New York in 1956 and later served as President of the Mid-Hudson Chapter of the National Association of Accountants.After their retirement in 1987, Ken and Felicia relocated to North Carolina, and were parishioners at St. Raphaels Catholic Church.Ken served his community in many capacities, including as Chairman of the Town of Pawling Planning Board, Chairman of the Board of Managers of the Holiday Hills YMCA, President of the Dutchess County Planning Federation, member of the Fearrington Village Service Group Board of Directors and a volunteer at local hospitals.He is survived by his four children - John Evancie and his wife Clare, Weybridge, VT; Jeanne Brzezinski and her husband Peter, Raleigh, NC; Tom Evancie and his wife Sheila, Auburn, CA, and Helen Evancie and her partner Mitzi Watson, Simpsonville, SC - eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, his brother David Evancie of Greenlawn, NY and his sister Phyllis Jacobellis of Durhamville, NY.A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, 11:00am, at the St. Francis of Assisi chapel, 11401 Leesville Road, Raleigh.Burial will follow in St. Raymonds Cemetery in the Bronx, NY.In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made to Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, 3808 Tarheel Drive, PO Box 58129, Raleigh, NC 27690-5831.
