Kincheon Hubert “Kin” Bailey, III, passed away Sunday, October 4, 2020 at VCU Medical Center in Richmond VA, after a two year battle with Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy, CIDP. Kin was born at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC to Lt. Col Kincheon H. “Bert” Bailey, Jr. (1921-2014) and Tommye Lou “T Lou” Bailey (1925-2009). He was their first and only son. Although Kin enjoyed living in many places as a young army brat, he was always proud to call Raleigh home since 1967. He is a graduate of Sanderson High School, class of 1972. Kin was preceded in death by his parents, Bert and T~Lou Bailey, and middle sister, Beth Ellen Bailey (1959-2018). He leaves behind his other sisters, Linda Lou Hux (Billy) of Louisburg, Laura Bailey and Nancy Margaret Brodd (Bob) both of Raleigh; one nephew, three nieces, two great nieces and two great nephews. He also leaves behind his most beloved feline companion, Abbie Goobie. Kin was our beloved brother, uncle and friend. Kin was an avid musician and he was an accomplished drummer. He was also a drummer for several local bands in the Raleigh area. When he became afflicted with Diabetes and was not as mobile, he taught himself bass and lead guitar. Kin could also play many songs on his trusty harmonica!! He would start to play it in the grocery store during a frenetic rush and immediately, his music calmed and lightened up the crowd. Kin also loved to cook but baking was his speciality. His oatmeal raisin cookies were the best around! His youngest sister, Nancy Margaret, said Kin was most proud of being a good baker!! Kin loved to learn by reading and watching documentaries. He always had on The Animal Planet and had a gracious love for all of God’s creatures. A close family friend, Peggy Nance Lyle, described our brother with this statement : “Kin was fearless in the outdoor cathedral of God.” Kin’s sisters also find comfort in knowing the date of Kin’s passing coincides with the celebration of St. Francis’ of Assisi’s life, who was the Patron Saint of wildlife and the environment. Another of Kin’s pals of over 30 years, Kim Reichert, described our brother as : “Kin was a warrior with a humble heart.” Kim especially enjoyed Kin’s quirky sense of humor. She also said Kin never asked for much but was most appreciative for the smallest things. His oldest sister, Linda Hux, says this a/b her brother : “My big brother was especially fond of fishing and whenever he came to the farm it was with an armful of fishing gear. Afterwards, as he sat at the dinner table, he would thank me over and over for my country cooking! We always looked forward to his guitar jam sessions to close out our family get togethers.” And his third youngest sister, Laura Jane, said “Kin was my first BFF and taught me all about snakes, frogs, lizards and spiders. Due to his influence, I respect them, have no fear of them and can identify them on sight.” The passing of our brother has left us full of sorrow. The earth seems much more somber and less colorful without his larger than life presence. “If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 PM on Saturday, October 17, 2020 in the Historic Oakwood Cemetery: 701 Oakwood Ave., Raleigh, NC 27601.
