Larry A. Carter, Sr.

Garner - Larry A. Carter, Sr., 77, passed away Wednesday. A native of Ellerbe, NC, Larry moved to the Raleigh area in pursuant of a career in agricultural research. In 2003, he retired as a Plant Pathology Technician with a tenure of 42 years at NC State University. He enjoyed working the early summer mornings selling produce at the State Farmers Market. For 41 years he co-owned and operated a family business, selling corn on the cob, at the NC State Fair every October. Larry served his community as an active member in the Garner Lions Club for over 35 years. The family will receive friends on Friday from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. A funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 AM at Carter Funeral Home in Rockingham, NC. Burial will follow at East Side Cemetery, Rockingham. Surviving are his sons, Larry A. Carter, Jr. (Tracy) and E. Todd Carter (Roxanna); brothers, Morris, Dwight, and Travis; sisters, Diane and Willa; grandsons, Gavin Ben Carter, and a large and loving extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eldridge Sr., Mary Ann (Mae) and sibling, Francis, Eldridge Jr., Rebecca (Becky), Hill, and Tom. Memorial donations in memory of Larry may be made to the Lions Club or the Lions Clubs International Foundation.
