Larry W. James

March 28, 1948 — May 18, 2020

Angier - Larry Wayne James, 72, of Angier, NC passed away on May 18, 2020 after a courageous battle with cancer that he fought bravely on his own terms. He was born on March 28, 1948 to the late Lawrence Wayne James and Jessie Mae (Hart) James. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his infant son, Barry James. Larry is survived by his beloved sons Scott James (Shannon) of Knightdale and Travis James (April) of Selma; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Emma James of Knightdale, Austin and Abbey James of Fuquay-Varina, and Tyler Wilder of Zebulon. In addition, Larry is survived by his siblings, Mary Lois James Sartin (Gordon) and Kenneth Lane James both of Angier. His niece, Tracy Sartin Perry (Ricky) of Angier and great nephew Daniel Perry. He retired from Precision Walls Inc. after more than twenty years where he was known as an expert of his craft in commercial drywall and was often requested for special projects. In his retirement, he enjoyed keeping soccer fields trimmed to perfection in Eastern Wake County. He was always lending his hand for anyone and in many areas of his community. Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing and many summers spent at White Lake with his boys playing cards, grilling and listening to NASCAR. His first love was always his family. He could always be seen attending numerous soccer games, regardless of the location, dance recitals and any activity that his grandchildren were involved in. “Papa James” was there with a Gatorade in hand and pretty much anything else they wanted. He was often a man of few words, but when he did speak, it was usually something to make you laugh and smile. We thank him for the endless trips to Bojangles, driving miles for games, cutting our grass, frying turkeys on Thanksgiving, always being early to everything and each and every way that he showed his love and care to others. We will miss seeing you in your fedora and take peace in your new found freedom in Heaven. Funeral arrangements at this time are private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Heartland Hospice, www.heartlandhospicefund.org or Angier Baptist Church. The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the staff of Heartland Hospice who cared for Papa James.
