Lattice Carr (LC) Maynard, Jr., age 92, of the McGee’s Crossroad Community of Benson, NC died January 26, 2024 in UNC Johnston Health – Smithfield. He was Born May 20, 1931 in Harnett County, NC to the late LC (Dutch) Maynard and Ava Nordan Maynard. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in dearth by his brothers, Charles N. Maynard, wife Edith and William N. Maynard.
He is survived by his wife Jean Guyton Maynard; his sons, Michael E. Maynard and his wife, Kathy and Richard C. Maynard and his wife, Dorothy; his grandchildren, Laura Mabe, Jessica Holman, Justin Maynard and Jordan Maynard; his great-grandchildren, Lillian Maynard, Emory Mabe, Chip Holman and Adelyn Mabe; his nephews, Charles (Chuck) Maynard, Bruce Maynard, Danny Maynard and Greg Maynard; his nieces, Jean Maynard Parker and Lynn Walters; his sister-in-laws, Beverly Kodek, Mary Boozer and Shirley Maynard.
LC was a graduate of Dunn High School class of 1949. Following high school, he joined the United States Army where he was a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne based in Ft. Campbell, KY. During his time in the Army, he made over 30 jumps in his Paratrooper career. While he was in service, he married the love of his life on December 21, 1951, Lois Jean Guyton of Columbia, SC. After he was honorably discharged from the Army, he enrolled at Campbell College in Buies Creek where in obtained his associate degree in business administration. Following his college years and graduation, he was hired by Durham Life Insurance Company in Raleigh, where he worked from 1955 until 1994. After retirement, LC and Jean purchased 30 acres and moved to Johnston County to live out his years as a gardener and gentleman farmer.
A faithful member of First Baptist Church of Garner for over 67 years, where he served as Sunday School Teacher, Little League Coach and Scout Master. For years, he was involved in the Optimist Club of Garner.
His memorial service will be held Wednesday, January 31, 2024 at 11:30 AM in the First Baptist Church of Garner. His family will receive friends and family following the service until 1:30 pm in the church.
