Laverne Batten Lee

Laverne Batten Lee, 88, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, March 14, 2022. Laverne is survived by her daughter, Deborah “Debbie” Burns and husband, Greg; son, Robert “Robbie” D. Lee and wife, Kay; grandchildren, Travis Burns, Casey Burns and fiancé, Anna Thorne, Amber Powers and husband, Drew, Gabrielle Lee, and Grayson Lee, caregiver and very special friend, Patricia Watkins; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband of thirty-eight years, Robert E. Lee; her sisters, Alberta Braswell, Sadie Wright, Katie Braswell, Gaynelle Herring, and Voncil Boswell; brothers, Joe and Edward Batten. She touched the lives of thousands of students in her career as an elementary teacher for twenty-six years in Wilson, Winston-Salem, and Wake School systems. She was a NC Baptist Assembly Summer Staff Alumni (Caswell) from the 1950’s and loved returning to Caswell when she could. She was a founding member of Aversboro Road Baptist Church and was known as the “bread lady” at Aversboro for her bread ministry. She served in many capacities as a member of Aversboro and was always a humble, selfless, loving servant of God. Laverne loved her Lord most of all and her family, especially her grandchildren. We will forever hold her close in our hearts and she will be missed greatly. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, March 17, 2022, at 3pm at Aversboro Road Baptist Church, 1600 Aversboro Road, Garner, NC 27529. The family will receive friends from 2-2:50 at the church. Interment will be private.
