Raleigh – Lawrence C. Wilson died Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Rex Healthcare. He was born May 17, 1928 in Raleigh, son of the late John C. and Elizabeth Joy Wilson. In 1948 Larry began his work career with Occidental Life Insurance Company of NC. After 38 years of service, he retired as Vice President-Support Services. He was also a vice-president of McM Corporation. He served in the US Army for two years, 1950 – 1952. In business associated organizations he was very active in Meeting Planners Association and Insurance Conference Planners Association. He was active in the Raleigh Jaycees and also in Toastmasters International. While serving as president of Tarheel Toastmasters Club of Raleigh, he was honored as “Toastmaster of the Year.” Larry was a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church of Raleigh where he served as a deacon. Surviving are his wife of 46 years, Katherine Norton Wilson; daughter, Laurie E. Whiteside; step-daughter, Leita Kay Perry; sister, Carolyn W. Altman; grandchildren, Erinn and Sarah Whiteside; step-grandchildren, Christina Linares, Richard and Chadwick Kuehne, Mary Katherine Kuehne, and Caroline Kuehne, several great-grandchildren, and nephew Todd Altman. Larry was pre-deceased by his son, Mark C. Wilson. A funeral service will be held at First Presbyterian Church on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Entombment will follow at Historic Oakwood Cemetery Mausoleum. Larry requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to the First Presbyterian Church Friendship Fund, 120 West Hargett Street, Raleigh, NC 27601 or to the charity of one’s choice.
