Clayton – Lawrence Howard William Murphy "Larry", 63, passed away on Thursday, September 9, 2021 following an acute illness. Larry was born in Baltimore, Maryland on April 18, 1958. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering in 1983 from Georgia Institute of Technology (Delta Upsilon Fraternity). He worked at The Wooten Company for the past 23 years where his colleagues described him as a "solid engineer and man of the highest integrity who exemplified the engineering ideals of commitment to his clients and public welfare." Larry was a member at First Baptist Church of Garner where he served in many ministry areas: Sunday school teacher, middle school leader, Upward/Impact basketball, volleyball ministry, greeter, and life group leader. His main passions in life were his love for the Lord, his family, and friends, along with his love of history and trivia of world events. Larry had a "servants’ heart" in every aspect of his life. He served many years with CEF (Child Evangelism Fellowship) where he was seen sharing Jesus at the NC State Fair using the "Wordless book". He never met a stranger and valued the importance of every individual he encountered. He just recently served at the Children's Good News Spectacular event; an outreach event that shares God's love to many. When you saw Larry, he was always giving his time and energy to serve the Lord and others. He will be remembered as a "dedicated servant for the Lord" with his hands raised up in praise or outstretched to show his compassion, joy, and love of life. His family will remember him as a loving, giving, caring, humble, generous, and faithful husband and brother. Survivors include his wife, Julie Murphy; sisters Gloria Dunton (Sharon Lewis) of Baltimore, MD and Donna Thompson (George) of Ladson. SC. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021 at 3 PM at First Baptist Church of Garner. The family will receive friends at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to CEF (PO Box 848 Garner, NC 27529 with memo line: In memory of Larry) or FBC Garner. We can almost hear Larry saying, "How have you seen God work today in your life?' and ,"' We are too blessed to be depressed", as he reached out to encourage others.
