AUG. 17, 1931 - MAR. 17, 2012 CLAYTON - Lawrence Simpson Dick Rhodes, Jr., 80, died on Saturday at SECU Hospice Home in Smithfield. He was born in Florence, SC to the late Lawrence Simpson and Bessie Hatchell Rhodes. Mr. Rhodes served in the US Navy Sea Bees during the Vietnam War. He was a railroad switchman with Atlantic Coastline and later became a superintendent for a construction company. Dick was also preceded in death by two brothers, James Elliot Rhodes and Hoyt McLaurin Rhodes. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 19, 2012 at 6:00 PM in the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home Chapel in Garner NC. Family will receive relatives and friends immediately following the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place on Tuesday, March 20, 2012 at 12:00 Noon at Florence National Cemetery, Florence SC with military honors. He is survived by his wife, Esther Louise Rhodes of Clayton; daughter, Sabrina Sorrell and her husband, David of Clayton; sons, R. M. Mike Rhodes, of Willow Spring and Lupe Boyle, of North Raleigh, L.A. Larry Rhodes and his wife, Rhonda, of Clayton, and A. T. Tim Rhodes and his wife, Reta, of Clayton; six grandchildren; and one great grandchild.
