Lela “Faye” Braswell Thompson, 74, of Raleigh, passed away comfortably in her home surrounded by her loving family. A native of Johnston County, she is the daughter of the late George Alexander and Lela Blanche Worley Braswell. Mrs. Thompson retired from the State of North Carolina Department of Community Colleges. She was a long-time member of Manor Ridge Home and Garden Club and served as the Club President over 40 years, a member of the Raleigh Garden Club of North Carolina, Vice President and PTA Board Member at her grand-daughter’s school and was also an active member of Broken Wing Fellowship Church. Mrs. Thompson loved flowers, gardening and decorating her yard. She was also an avid race fan and loved supporting her daughter and son-in-law’s racing hobby, but Mrs. Thompson’s biggest passion was being a loving grandmother to her one and only granddaughter. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Jerry Wayne Thompson; daughter, Angela Thompson Heigl and husband, Joe of Raleigh; son, Joey Wayne Thompson and wife Louise of Raleigh; brother, Larry Wayne Braswell and wife Frances of Princeton; and her one precious grand-daughter Summer Gray Thompson. Funeral services will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday at Broken Wing Fellowship Church. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Transitions Life Care, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh NC 27607 or Broken Wing Fellowship Church, 1837 E. Garner Road, Raleigh, NC 27610.
