FUQUAY-VARINA– Leo “Vinnie” Hessman, 78, passed away at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh on Saturday. Vinnie was born, raised, and spent most of his life in Harnett County. He was the son of the late Leo Joseph Hessman and Heloise Overby Hessman. Vinnie loved fishing and his local church. He was a man that was generous beyond the assets he held. His love for his family and his dedication to Jesus was easily recognized by everyone he met. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 20th at 11:00 AM at Piney Grove Chapel Baptist Church, Angier. Burial will follow at Chalybeate Springs Baptist Church Cemetery, Fuquay-Varina. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 19th from 6:00-8:00 PM at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Angier and at other times at the home of his daughter, Shannon Watkins. The wearing of a mask is strongly encouraged when attending the above mentioned service and times of visitation with the family. Vinnie is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Peggy P. Hessman; daughter, Shannon Hessman Watkins and husband, Brian of Coats; son, Dr. Ricky Lynn Hessman and wife, Susan of Holden Beach; grandchildren, Patrick Vincent Hessman of Raleigh, Kaylin Hessman Sorrell and husband, David of Angier, Joseph Caleb Scott Watkins of Coats, Anna Grace Watkins of Coats; sister, Martha S. McConnell of Lillington and his belove Shih Tzu, Riley Lynn Hessman of the home. In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by his brother, Harry F. Hessman.
