ANGIER - Leonard David “Dave” Hendges, 77, passed away Friday evening surrounded by his loving
family. He was born in Jackson, Michigan and resided in Rives Junction.
Dave graduated from Northwest High School in 1965. Dave joined the US Army in August of 1966.
He went to Vietnam where he was awarded the National Service Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service
Medal and Vietnam Campaign Medal. He was honorably discharge in August of 1969. He
worked for Champion Mobile Homes, Harnett County School Maintenance as an electrician and
HVAC, and Harnett County Fire Marshal’s Office. He also owned his own business for many
years, Hendges Electric. He was a charter member of Lillington Rescue Squad and served as a
volunteer firefighter for over 30 years with Summerville Fire Department and Angier-Black
River Fire Department. Dave was a faithful member of Kennebec Baptist Church in Angier for 20 years and
served as a deacon for 6 years.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 12 th, at 1:00 PM at Kennebec Baptist Church,
Angier, NC. The family will receive friends following the service at the church and at other
times at the home of Dave and Ruby Hendges.
Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Louise Hendges; sister, Deloris; brothers,
Richard, Carleton, and George “Bud” Hendges.
Dave is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Ruby; brother, Ted Hendges; sisters, Betty Dumbauld
and Annette Demerest and husband Ron; son, Christopher David Hendges and wife Jennifer,
son, Kevin Eugene Hendges and wife Melissa; grandchildren, Taylor Hendges Messer and
husband Tyson, Madison Hendges Bryant and husband Christopher, Graham Charles Douglas
and fiancé Victoria, Brendan Gregory Douglas, Keylie Nicole Hendges and fiancé Ben, and
Koen Sean Hendges; great-grandchildren, Tinsley Elizabeth Messer and Patrick Joseph Bryant;
several nieces and nephews.
