Leroy Groom Simpkins

LeRoy (Roy) Groom Simpkins, born August 7, 1937 peacefully passed away on March 18, 2024. Born in Millville New Jersey, Roy joined LeRoy D. And Sophia M Simpkins as their only child. Taught at an early age in Sunday school, Roy received Jesus at the age of 12 at a Youth For Christ Billy Graham event at Trinity Methodist Church in the small town of his birth.

The first in his family to obtain a high school diploma, Roy later obtained a B.A. from Glassboro State College (Rowan University), majoring in U.S. History by attending night classes from 1965 to 1975. During that period Roy joined Prudential Insurance Co. in 1966 as an entry level clerk, retiring some twenty years later as a division manager.

Roy relocated to Raleigh N.C. with his wife Joyce and three children Ian, Melissa and Danielle. The three were born in Guilford County of which they are quite proud.

Roy attributed his spiritual growth to mens bible studies during his days in Guilford College, Southside Church and Vineland NJ Christian Missionary and Alliance church.

Stricken with Guillan Barre in October 2020. Roy experienced its many life-changing effects including the loss of the ability to walk.

Roy is survived by Joyce his wonderful wife and care giver of fifty three years. Son Ian David Simpkins, daughters Melissa Joy Renauro and Danielle Lea Braxton, grand-daughters Sophia Joyce Renauro and Camden Leah Braxton and sons-in-Law Samuel Renauro III, Christopher Scott Braxton and Juan Luis Amate Santos.

A memorial service will be held at 2pm Saturday, March 23rd at Southside Church 299 Carlton St Clayton NC 27520.
