Linda Jeanne Kapcar entered into her eternal rest on April 29, 2023 after a brief but courageous third battle with cancer. She passed surrounded in love, prayers, and peace with her only regret being that she could not remove the scourge of cancer from this world so that no other families would have to suffer from it’s effects the way hers has.
Linda was born August 16, 1956 in Norfolk, VA to Andrew and Nancy Kapcar. Her father served in the US Navy which allowed Linda to experience many wonderful homes, finally settling in Warner Robins, GA. She is a graduate of the Northside High School class of 1974
and went on to serve four years in the US Navy. She settled in Albany, Georgia, where she lived for most of her adult life working in Logistics at MCLB – Albany. In May 2002 she moved to Jackson, Mississippi and in August 2005 she relocated to Durham, NC where she worked at Duke University for the Army ROTC program until she retired. She was the adventurous type who enjoyed riding in hot air balloons, tried skydiving, and attending Durham Bulls games and air shows with her children and grandchildren. In her spare time Linda volunteered as a part of the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Team and Dachshund Rescue of North America. It was here that she and her beloved dachshund, Brownie, became a certified therapy dog team. She and Brownie enjoyed visiting nursing homes and the Ronald McDonald House in Durham, where they were able to bring joy and happiness to those most in need.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Gail Allen, her brother Paul Kapcar, and her beloved dog Brownie. Left to forever cherish her memory are her children Jennifer (Tom) Leonard of Lexington Park, MD, Brandi (Chuck) Lucas and Kevin (Stacy) Polson both of Durham, NC, Carrie Lokey of Thomson, GA and Brian (Kim) Polson of Augusta, GA, her grandchildren Franklyn, Kaydrienne, Kalvin, Dakota, Jazmine, and Zapporah, and one great-grandson Josiah along with a host of close friends and neighbors she met along her life’s Journey.
Linda accomplished many things in her life but her greatest accomplishments and source of pride, joy, sleepless nights and a few headaches were her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchild.
Linda’s family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Duke University for their efforts in helping her in this cancer battle and her previous one as well. The family will arrange a memorial service at a later date and time to celebrate her life and to spread her ashes. In lieu of flowers, Linda kindly requested donations be made in her honor and memory to Dachshund Rescue of North America or another charity of your choosing that helps to rescue and care for animals.
