Lloyd Thomas "Tom" Langley, Jr.

January 24, 1952 — March 12, 2025

GARNER - Lloyd Thomas "Tom" Langley, Jr., 73, passed away Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at his home surrounded by family.

He was born in Cumberland County on January 24, 1952, the son of the late Lloyd Thomas Langley and Mayreece Blake Langley. Tom loved playing basketball and had a prolific career at Stedman High School before graduating from Cape Fear High School in 1970. Tom graduated from East Carolina University in 1974 where he made lifelong friends. During this time Tom began his short but illustrious modeling career with Belk department store. His family and friends can confirm he never took a bad picture.

After college Tom began a career with the NC Department of Correction before moving to the US Courts system to continue his work in the early eighties. One of Tom's most notable contributions came when he spearheaded the creation of a firearms training program for the U.S. Probation Officers in NC. At the time, there was no national standard, and each district had to request approval from their court to allow officers to carry firearms. Tom, ever the problem solver, took on the challenge with no hesitation. He developed the program, procured the necessary equipment, and designed a training curriculum from scratch. His dedication ensured the safety of countless officers, and the impact of his efforts is still felt today.

Tom was an active and beloved member of Amelia Christian Church in Clayton, NC. During his lifetime Tom embodied the attributes of a Christian man through love, service and devotion. Many Sunday afternoons after church were spent playing golf with friends. As Tom could tell you the best part of any day was friends, family and food. He was a devoted husband, father and papa who charmed everyone he met with his jokes and laughter.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his brothers, Daniel Welch Langley and William Blake Langley.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Langley; daughter, Megan Langley and husband, Michael Weller of Raleigh; step-children, Clint Simmons and wife, Angela of Sparta, Britni Simmons and partner, Brian Kelly of Clayton; step-grandchildren, Cody Helms, Isla Kelly; and a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Mondy, March 17, 2025, at Amelia Christian Church in Clayton with the Rev. Brandon Patterson officiating. The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation at the church, one hour prior to the memorial service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Tom's memory to Amelia Christian Church Building Fund: 1696 Amelia Church Rd, Clayton, NC 27520.
