RALEIGH - Lois Herring Parker was born Nov. 30, 1927 and passed from this life on Nov. 15, 2021. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Bruce Edward Parker, with whom she owned Parkers Engraving, a commercial and social stationery company in downtown Raleigh. The daughter of the late Emerson and Leitha Herring, Mrs. Parker grew up in Mt. Holly, NC where she developed a lifelong love of basketball. After a basketball career with the Hanes Hosiery team, whose successes have been highlighted in the NC Museum of History, Mrs. Parker achieved the rank of bank vice-president in the 1950s. Resuming a banking career as her children grew older, Mrs. Parker served as statewide teller instructor for First Citizens Bank before joining her husband at Parkers Engraving. She is survived by her daughter, Stephanie Mills, and son-in-law, Richard Mills, her son, Steve Parker, and daughter-in-law, Carla Evans Parker, grandchildren Katie Mills Petro, Audrey Mills Wiggs and husband, Brian Wiggs, Heath Parker and fiancé, Shelby Martin, and Hannah Parker, six great grandchildren and special niece, Marie Rowe. In addition to her husband and parents, Mrs. Parker was predeceased by a sister, Aline Bailey, and great grandson, Zachary Wiggs. A funeral service will be held at the graveside on Thurs., Nov. 18, at 3:00 PM in Montlawn Memorial Park. The family respectfully requests that, rather than flowers, donations be made to Mr. & Mrs. Parker's church, Emmanuel Baptist, 2100 Noble Rd, Raleigh, NC 27608.
