Lois Todd Hinson Alford passed away on May 17th 2016 at Western Wake Hospital after a brief struggle with pneumonia. Lois was born in Columbus County, NC near Fair Bluff to the late Vardell and Clyde Todd. She was pre-deceased by her husbands, Fratz Hinson and Shelby F. Alford, and her brother Wade Todd. She was a resident of the Five Points area of Raleigh for 36 years before moving to the Glenaire Retirement Center in Cary, NC in 2007. Lois graduated from High School in Fair Bluff, NC and later attended Campbell College. After retiring from Nortel Networks with 18 years of service in 1997, she became very active in mission work and other activities for Emmanuel Baptist Church. She had been a member of Emmanuel since 1972. She was a member of the choir, and also served as a Deacon. Mission trips took Lois to Hungary, Romania and East Berlin. She loved to travel doing good works for the Lord through her church. Other journeys included trips to Alaska, the Canadian Rockies, France, Sweden, and the Western United States. She is survived by her son Thomas Dell Hinson, his wife Bonnie of Michigan; daughter, Fran Gowdy, and her husband, Patrick of Cary; four grandchildren: Kristen Hinson, Dr. Andrea Kirby Fitts, Dakota Severe, and Hunter Kirby. Also, great-grandchild, Jax Severe. Other surviving family members are her sister, Beth Todd White, and her husband Larry White of Wilmington; sister-in-law, ouise Todd of Wake Forest and many nephews and nieces. Services will be held at Emmanual Baptist Church in Raleigh at 2:00 pm on Saturday, May 21st, with visitation being held from 1 – 2 pm. The burial/graveside service will take place on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm in the Powell Cemetery in Fair Bluff, NC Lois’ family would like to give special thanks to the staff of Glenaire for their devotion and special attention given to Mrs Alford in the past few years. Memorial may be made in her memory to the Emmanuel Baptist Church Mission Fund.
