Lonnie S. "Buddy" Smith

Angier, North Carolina - Lonnie Sherwood "Buddy" Smith of Angier, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on August 7, 2024.

Lonnie was born on February 4, 1936, in Angier. NC, the son of the late Carrie Elisabeth and Grover Artis Smith.

Lonnie married the love of his life, Barbara Faye Gilliam on August 14,1955. They had 69 wonderful years together raising two sons Richard and Mark primarily in Raleigh, NC. Lonnie retired in 1999 after a successful career in the insurance industry, and as an auditor for the State of NC. After retirement he and Faye moved back to their hometown of Angier, NC and became active in the community and at church. Lonnie enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, traveling and playing golf with his brothers.

Lonnie is survived by his wife Faye, son Richard, daughter-in-law Stephanie, and his sibling Patrica Mills. Lonnie was preceded in death by his parents, his son Mark Smith, and his siblings Mary McKinney, Myrtle Ray, Loyce Smith, Ralston Smith, Garland Smith, Grover Smith, Shirley Martin and Charles Smith.

Lonnie will be forever in our hearts and never forgotten.

The family would like to thank the caregivers that helped provide care for Lonnie and Faye over the last few years allowing them to stay together at home.

A graveside service will be held for Lonnie at 11:00 am on Wednesday, August 21st at Lakeside Memorial Gardens, Angier.
