HILLSBOROUGH – Lore Zink Struss, 94, formerly of Smithfield, died Wednesday. Born in Germany, she immigrated to the US in 1954, settling in New Jersey. After retiring from the US Postal Service, she relocated to North Carolina in 1984. She was a founding member of GAST (German Austrian and Swiss of the Triangle). Mrs. Struss held several Senior Olympic gold medals in swimming and running, in addition to being a Master Gardener. A memorial service will be held Saturday, 10:00 am at Lord of Life Lutheran Church. The Family will receive friends at the church following the service. Survivors include her sons, Jim von St. Paul and wife Kathy of Hillsborough and Eberhardt Struss of Aragon, GA; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by son, Werner von St. Paul. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lord of Life Love Garden, 2100 Buffaloe Rd., Garner, NC 27529.
