Lorene Wood Grissom “MamaRene” May 28, 1933 - February 23, 2016 Born in Wilson’s Mills, NC on May 28, 1933, the 7th of 9 children of Effie Sullivan Wood and Grover Henderson Wood. Since then, the world has had a joyous, loving, compassionate light that has burned fiercely in her all these years and brought assistance, nurturing, laughter, and healing to the many people whose lives she touched. Funeral service will be held on Sat. Feb. 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Garner, NC. , with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and relatives from 9:30 – 10:45 prior to the service at the church. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her devoted husband of 64 years, Billy Macon Grissom, Sr.; children Bonnie G. Blackley (Jimmy) of Black Mountain, NC; Rhonda G. Jernigan (Phil) of Raleigh, NC; Billy “Macon” Grissom, Jr. (Cheryl) of Garner, NC; grand-children Phyllis Jernigan of Raleigh, NC; Brad Jernigan (Lesley) of Wilmington, NC; Kristen Holcomb (Stan) of Siler City, NC; Megan Blackley of Asheville, NC; Heather Barbour-Wyatt (Seth) of Charlotte, NC; Billy Macon “Trey” Grissom, III (Megan) of Springfield, VA; Travis Grissom (Mallory) of Durham, NC and great grand-children Blake Holcomb and Butler Jernigan. Numerous nieces and nephews who she loved dearly. She is survived by her brother Roger “Jimmy” Wood (Linda) of Hyco Lake in Roxboro, NC. Sisters-in-Law Hilda Wood (widow of Calvin) of Garner, NC; Zelda Wood (widow of Braxton) of Smithfield, NC; Brothers and Sisters-in-Law Rachel and Frank Tart of Garner, NC and Marshall and Shirley Grissom of Garner, NC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brothers Calvin, Braxton, Odell, Wilson and twin brother Eugene and sisters Ethel W. Lamb and Violet W. Barbour. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Transitions LifeCare, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or the Building Fund of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, 15772 NC-50, Garner, NC 27529. The family wishes to acknowledge and thank the wonderful, caring staff of the William M. Dunlap Center for Caring (Transitions LifeCare Hospice Home). They were such a comfort and blessing to our MamaRene.
