On Saturday, March 13, 2021, Lorna Jean Henderson passed away at the age of 89. Lorna was born in Manhattan, New York on August 5, 1931 to Leslie Alexander Henderson and Helen Rose Schuck. She never married and had no children. Lorna grew up in Bronxville, New York where she graduated from Tuckahoe High School. She later graduated from Mount Holyoke College where she majored in history and minored in speech. After graduating, Lorna worked for American Cyanamid. Later she worked for the United Nations Church Center, a job she loved. When the Center closed, she returned to college and received a Master’s Degree in Education from New York University. Following that, she taught school in Manhattan, New York from 1967 to 1987. Upon retirement she moved to Raleigh, North Carolina. While teaching, Lorna was given a teaching sabbatical during which she traveled throughout the United States. She loved traveling, and she also toured Europe as well as South and Central America. Lorna was fond of music, photography, movies, good food (especially tea and bread) and cats. She was also a very good bridge partner. A memorial service to celebrate Lorna’s life will be held at a time and place to be determined.
