Lorraine Dour

March 5, 1928 — May 28, 2021

RALEIGH – Lorraine Dour, 93, of Raleigh, NC passed away peacefully, on May 28, 2021. Born in Brooklyn, NY on March 5, 1928 to Blanche and William McCue, Sr., Lorraine was raised in the Flatbush section of Brooklyn with her sister, Bernice Harris (Colorado Springs, CO) and brother, William McCue, Jr. (Central Bridge, NY). Lorraine graduated from James Madison High School, and worked for NBC in Rockefeller Plaza while attending Brooklyn College. She married Jerry Dour in 1951, moved to West Babylon, NY and raised three children. They were married for 39 years until Jerry passed away in 1990. The family was active in St. Joseph’s Parish, Babylon, NY and then Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, West Babylon, NY, when that parish was created. Lorraine volunteered at the church in many capacities, including Bingo for over 45 years and was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America for 62 years since 1959. In addition to volunteer work, Lorraine worked for 13 years as a chiropractor’s assistant and for 24 years with the US Postal Service in Huntington Station, NY, retiring in 2008 at 80 years old. Lorraine was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. Lorraine is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Dour and her partner, Larry Huppert, of San Diego, CA; Patricia Giroux and her partner, Donald Dove, of Raleigh, NC; and son, Frederick Dour and wife, Jean Marie of Basking Ridge, NJ. Lorraine was very proud of each of her grandchildren, Dominique Giroux of Vienna, VA; Bryan Giroux and wife, Heather, of Ft. Washington, PA; Marisa Dour of Charlotte, NC; Eric and Trevor Dour of Basking Ridge, NJ; and her great-granddaughter, Margot Giroux of Ft. Washington, PA. Lorraine moved to Magnolia Glen Retirement Community in Raleigh, NC in 2013 where she cultivated many friends. She was also an active member of Saint Francis of Assisi Parish in Raleigh. A funeral mass will be held at 12:30 PM on Tuesday, June 1, 2021 at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Raleigh. After the service at Saint Francis, Lorraine will be buried next to Jerry in a private family service at Calvary Cemetery, Woodside, NY. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Right to Life Organization, which Lorraine was passionate about, even marching at rallies in Washington, DC. Arrangements are by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home of Raleigh. Online condolences may be made at www.bryan-leefuneralhome.com
