Louis Holt Gray, Jr.

RALEIGH - Louis Holt Gray, Jr., 72, of Raleigh passed Wednesday, January 3. Known to his family as Buddy, he was preceded in death by his parents Louis Holt Gray and Bessie Lee Humphreys Gray. He is survived by his long-time companion, Harriett Starling Coley; his sister, Lynne Gray Munns (Phil), of Emerald Isle; and brothers, John Humphreys Gray (Martha) and Scott Thomas Gray (Susan) of Raleigh. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Jorie Munns Dickerson (Billy), Jennifer Munns Jackson (Donnie), Mary Brinn Gray, Emily Shore Gray, John Holt Gray, Samuel Wrenn Gray, and Elijah Scott Gray; and great-nieces and great-nephew, Avery Leigh Dickerson, Luke Edward Jackson, Wrenn Margaret Jackson, and Reese Olivia Dickerson. Among others mourning his death are Chris Holt and Tristan Holt.

Louis had varied interests and particularly enjoyed racing, sailing, astronomy, and shooting. From an early age, he displayed an admirable concern for the needs of others and was widely known for his generosity to both friends and strangers.

Louis cherished his friends, many of whom he had known since childhood. He had maintained contact with numerous former co-workers and was grateful for those relationships. He was a Master Mason and an active member of William T. Bain Lodge No. 231 in Raleigh, NC for over 36 years, having served as Master of the Lodge in 1992.

A memorial service will be held at 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 21, in the Chapel of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home at 831 Wake Forest Road in Raleigh. This celebration of Louis’ life will be led by Pastor Floyd Baker. Friends and family are invited to dress comfortably and greet one another at the funeral home prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 pm.
