Lucille Markle

Lucille Markle, 88, passed away Friday, March 17, 2017 surrounded by family. Lucille was born in South Plainfield, New Jersey, on September 23, 1928, the youngest of five children. She married Joseph Markle and moved to Cary, NC in 1968. They retired in Swansboro, NC until Joe’s death on November 30, 2003. Lucille then moved to Clayton, NC to be closer to her seven favorite children: Madalyn Gentry (Johnny Perry), Joseph Markle (Sandi), Karen Bell (Larkin), Mary Lu Stott (Nelson), Caralyn House (Bob), Claire Smith (Jimmie) and Peter Markle (Sue), ten grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and beloved sister-in-law, Carol Grabko. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday at 2:30 PM at St. Mary Mother of the Church Catholic Parish, Garner.  The family will receive friends at a reception following the service at the church. Lucille was a nurse and loved working with newborns. She was a devout Catholic and achieved the ranking of Silver Life Master Bridge Player. Her bridge points rivaled her Harrah’s points and she always had her pom poms ready for Duke Basketball games. Lucille will be laid to rest at a later date with her husband, Joe, in Swansboro, NC.
