Lucille Sauls Evans, 95, died peacefully at home in Peachtree Corners, Georgia surrounded by loved ones on May 17, 2021. She was born at home in Wake County, North Carolina to Letha and Hudson Sauls and grew up on the farm with five siblings. Graduating from Garner High School, she was the first female student bus driver in Wake County. Lucille attended Peace College and enjoyed a thirty-two year career with Wake County, first with the Agricultural Extension Service and then as administrative assistant to the county manager. Lucille was married to James Weldon Ennis for fifty-four years until his passing, and then to Elwood Lee Evans for eleven years until his passing. She was a devoted wife and mother, a faithful Christian, a fabulous cook, a skilled seamstress, a master quilter, a 4-H leader, and a dedicated member of the Wake County Extension Homemakers. When asked how she wanted to be remembered she said she “loved being a mother more than anything in the world.” She raised two daughters who survive her, Melanie Ennis Williams (Jim) and Nancy Ennis Clardy (John). She was the consummate caregiver and was the happiest when she was helping others. Other survivors include her loving sisters Carolyn Sauls Stevens, and Patricia Sauls Misner (Richard), four grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. The family gives special thanks to the dedicated caregivers at Capstone Hospice, Village Park at Peachtree Corners and loving companions Jemimah Sanda and Sainabu Jagne who helped her gently leave this world and enter the Kingdom of God. Visitation for family and friends will be at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Rd., Garner, NC 27529 on July 23 from 11:00-1:00. Lucille will be interred at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh in a private family graveside service. A memorial service was held in the Dunwoody United Methodist Church chapel in Georgia on June 9 at 1:00. Memorial donations may be made to Community of Hope Ministries, 601 St. Mary’s St., Garner, NC 27529, or to Dunwoody United Methodist Church, 1548 Mount Vernon Rd., Dunwoody, GA 30338.
