Lucy Winston Goode

Raleigh – Lucy Winston Goode, 90, of Raleigh, NC passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015. Lucy was born on March 22, 1924 in Franklin County, NC to the late Johnnie Gray Winston and Mary Scarborough Winston. She graduated from East Carolina University and taught school for 2 years in Murphy, NC before marrying Dr. Lemuel Goode and moving to Raleigh, NC. Lucy was a loyal Wolfpack fan only missing football and basketball games as her health declined. She loved working in her garden, playing bridge with her many friends, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Her life was spent in the service to others. Whether volunteering at Rex Hospital, participating in the College Ministry at Forest Hills Baptist Church, or working at the NC State Fair, Lucy loved helping others. She is predeceased by her husband, Dr. Lemuel Goode, a Professor of Animal Science at NCSU. Survivors include her children, Candace Goode Vick and husband Dennis Vick, and Charles Lemuel Goode and wife Cindy Goode; six grandchildren: Charlotte Duff and husband Bryan, Michael Vick, Brice Vick and wife Caroline, James Vick, Charles Goode and Catherine Goode; sister Mary Pair and husband Percy Pair, brother Johnny Winston and wife Rose Winston, and numerous nieces and nephews. A service to celebrate her life will be held at Forest Hills Baptist Church on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at 1:00 PM. Burial will be private. Family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 13, from 5:00 -7:00 PM in the Gathering Place at Forest Hills Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Forest Hills Baptist Church Gathering Place Fund,, 201 Dixie Trail, Raleigh, NC 27607.
