Lyman Griffis Worthington, 93, of Raleigh, known as “Griff”, passed away peacefully in his home on March 27, 2021. Griff was born in Grimesland, NC in 1928. He was the oldest of three boys born to Lyman John Worthington and Magdalene Griffis Worthington. He is known to friends and family as a loyal family supporter and a friend to all. He was a life-long learner with a curious mind. After graduating from North Carolina University at Chapel Hill, Griff worked hard all of his life. Griff served his country for over 35 years with the North Carolina National Guard and retired with the rank of Col. In his next career, he worked with Income Properties for many years. He gave back to his community by serving on The Homeowners Association for his community for over 20 years. Griff loved his “Brugger’s” Breakfast Club friends! They shared many stories and jokes at 7 am every morning. He also learned from, and appreciated, his Investment Club friends. Griff was always learning how computers and cell phones worked! Griff, and his friend Sarah Jeffrey, enjoyed travelling with friends and visiting family and friends near and far. He will be missed by all. Griff is survived by the love of his life Sarah Sauls Jeffrey and her family, Sears Sauls and his wife Joyce; his brother, David Jan Worthington and wife, Gloria Bryan Worthington of Piedmont, SC; his sister-in-law Frances Worthington of Charlotte, NC; niece Deborah Worthington Wilkinson and husband Donald R. Wilkinson of Wake Forest, NC; niece Kimberly Worthington Sawyers and husband Timothy Sawyers of Charlotte, NC; nephews Dr. David Bryan Worthington of Simpsonville, SC and John Anthony Worthington and wife Gwen Worthington of Greer, SC. He is survived by so many others in his extended families who loved him dearly! Due to Covid restrictions, a private funeral service will be held on Wednesday March 31st at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh. Appropriate local guidelines will be followed. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested contributions be made to Transitions Life Care, 250 Hospice Circle, Raleigh, NC 27607 or White Memorial Presbyterian Church, 1704 Oberlin Road, Raleigh NC 27608.
