APEX- Mabel Parrish Hicks, died Wednesday. A native of Wake Co., she was the daughter of the late Commie and Annie Stancil Parrish. She worked for 37 years for Jesse Jones/Goodmark Foods. A lover of flowers, she was widely known for her orchids and was a charter member of the Triangle Orchid Society. She was also known for her love of animals and especially the sheep that she raised. A world traveler, she was known for restoring old homes and spending time with her family and going to the beach. She loved the Salem Baptist Church Family and enjoyed the activities there. Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Sunday at Salem Baptist Church, Apex. Burial will follow at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery, Garner. Surviving: daughters, Patricia Johnson Maynard and husband, Don, Paulette Johnson Slayton and husband, Lacy and Mary Gail Partin Ellington, all of Garner; grandchildren, Mary Margaret Maynard Manlove and husband, Matt of Garner, Dr. Christopher Paul Partin and wife Dawn of Raleigh, Stephanie Britt Shepherd and husband, John of Raleigh, Melissa Partin Heath of Garner and Valerie Britt Clinard and husband Kris of Fuquay-Varina; step children, James Thomas Hicks and Jeanette Hicks Johnson and husband, Larry, all of Garner and 6 great grandchildren and 4 step grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Hicks, Jr. The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 pm Saturday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner and at other times at the home of Pat and Don Maynard.
