Mabel Wells Carmichael

Raleigh-Mabel Wells Carmichael, 87, died Sunday, August 17, 2014. Born in Rocky Mount, Mabel was reared at the Methodist Orphanage in Raleigh. She graduated from Hardbarger Business College and entered the insurance business, working for USF&G for 50 years. She served as President of the NC Association of Insurance Women and won the Florence B. Isley Award for Woman of the Year in 1966. She was a devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she sang soprano in the choir, directed the childrens music program for many years, and often represented the church at conferences for Methodist women across the state.Mrs. Carmichael was preceded in her death by her husband, Linwood Carmichael; her brother, J.D. Wells; her sister, Alice Schratz; and her great grandson, Jacob Parrott.Surviving are her son, C.L. Carmichael, her grandchildren Courtenay Bailey, Hillary Parrott (Josh), and Chandler Carmichael and her great grandchildren Walker Jackson, Elliott Jackson, Martha Parrott, and Carter Parrott. Also surviving are her brother and sister-in-law, Herbert and Rosalie Wells, and their children Cathie McLean (Rob), Gene Wells (Marsha), Joe Wells, Phil Wells, and Kim Carr (Rob).A memorial service will be held at Trinity United Methodist Church in Raleigh, at noon, Thursday, August 21, 2014 preceded by visitation at 11:00 a.m.Memorial gifts may be made to The Methodist Home for Children, a place dear to her heart, and her beloved Trinity United Methodist Church.Arrangements by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Raleigh.
