Magdalene Parker Gillespie

Magdalene Parker Gillespie was born to the late Brody and Medie Ellen Noles Parker of Meadows Township, Benson, NC. She married Edward Leon Gillespie March 1, 1964 at Banner’s Chapel Advent Christian Church, Benson, NC. They were married forty-eight years until Edward’s death in 2012. Magdalene and her husband were graduates of Meadows High School. She graduated in the Class of 1962.

Magdalene was a member of Garner Advent Christian Church. She taught Sunday School there. She was a devoted Christian wife, mother, aunt, sister, and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening flowers, spending time with grandchildren and family, and reading. She had a strong faith and studied the Bible faithfully. She taught the children and grandchildren to love, respect, and trust each other and the Almighty God.

She was a member of the Red Hat Society, Raleigh Tea Society, and Wake County React Unit# 18. She was employed by Dorothea Dix Hospital for thirty years and enjoyed her work. She also attended Ogburn Real Estate School.

Magdalene loved her children, her family, and Ed’s family dearly.

She is survived by son, Michael Edward Gillespie (Sherri); daughter, Marilyn Gillespie McGee; grandchildren, Amber Lee Stewart (Brad), Emily Nicole Gillespie, Bradley Ragan (Mackenzie), Brittany Horne (Ethan), and Brittnee Campbell; great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Grace Wilkins, Avery Mack Ragan, Brody Horne, and Beau Horne; sister, Brenda Goldston; and brothers, Erby K. Parker, Daniel Parker, and Donnie Ray Parker.

Preceding her in death were her parents, Brody and Medie Ellen Noles Parker; husband, Edward Leon Gillespie; sister, Doris Williford; and brothers, Wendell Parker, Kirby J. Parker, and Samuel Parker.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 21st from 10:00 – 11:30 A.M. at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 1200 Benson Road in Garner, followed by a graveside service at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh.
