Margaret Doreen Stephenson

Margaret “Doreen” Stephenson, 92 of Garner, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 15, 2023 at

home surrounded by family.

Doreen was born in Flat Bay, Newfoundland on January 25 th , 1930 to Neil & Evelyn Bennett. She was a loving mom, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend to many. She loved to work in her yard, tending to her flowers and garden.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Brooks Stephenson, sisters: Jean Bennett and Joan Ploughman, brothers: Junior and Teddy Bennett, and grandson, Jeffrey Gordon Hayes.

She is survived by her children: Colin (Karla) Stephenson of Littleton, NC; Michael Stephenson of Garner,and Donna (Jeff) Hayes of Raleigh. Grandchildren: Nicole Hitchcock of Chapel Hill, Brooke Lewis of Mooresville, Zachary (Libby) Hayes of Willow Spring, Morgan Hayes of Raleigh, Taylor Hayes (fiancé Wrenn Dawson), 3 great grandchildren, sisters Isabel Kelley, Vera (Hollis) Sweetapple, Mena (John) Keats, brothers, Ivan (Lorraine) Bennett, Chesley (Doris) Bennett and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 11:00 AM – 11:45 AM at Holland’s Church, Raleigh. A memorial service will follow at the church at noon.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s, Community of Hope Food Pantry or Transitions Hospice Life Care.
