Margaret Ellen Kirkpatrick Bond of Raleigh and formerly of Lumberton, North Carolina, died on Tuesday, July 12, 2011. She was born in Antioch, Hoke County, NC, on October 31, 1914, to the late Hiram and Flora E. McNeill Kirkpatrick. After graduating from RaefordHigh School, she earned a degree in 1935 from FloraMcDonaldCollege in Red Springs. She taught students for more than forty (40) years in Chapel Hill, Rowland, Lumberton, Littlefield, and FairmontHigh Schools. Margaret inspired many students over the years with her soft voice, sweet smile, beauty within and without, being gracious and lovely, while serving as a steppingstone for them. In recognition of her service, on October 31, 2010, she was awarded The Order of The Long Leaf Pine by Governor Beverly Perdue. A Witness to the Resurrection service will be conducted at 2:00 PM on Sunday, July 17, at The First Presbyterian Church on the corner of 10th and Chestnut Streets in Lumberton, where she was a member for many years. Family members will receive guests there following the service. Surviving are her daughter Carolyn Bond Morrison, and husband, Fred Gilbert Morrison Jr.; grandson, James Wiley Earp, III, and wife, Elisabeth; great-grandson, Christopher James Earp; and great-granddaughter, Cameron Riley Earp, all of Raleigh. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Bond was preceded in death by her husband, Eugene Prentiss Bond, Jr.; a brother, James T. Kirkpatrick; a daughter, Margaret Bond Taylor; and a son-in-law, Vernon Eddie Taylor Jr. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to The Endowment Trust of The First Presbyterian Church of Lumberton, P.
