Margaret May Macrae

January 8, 1925 — April 18, 2024

Margaret “Peg” Newman MacRae, age 99, passed away surrounded by loved ones on April 18, 2024.


Peg was an amazing woman who touched many lives and an inspiration to all that knew her. She had many talents and loved painting, cooking, and sewing. Her talent for sewing led to owning her own business customizing in formal gowns and alterations until she retired in her late 70’s. She loved spending time with family, especially her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her creativity led to telling a story throughout the generations about a little rabbit named Hippity Hoppity Hooper and her stories eventually inspired a published children’s book. Later in life, Peg took up golfing at the age of 60 and played well into her 90’s. She participated in many golf leagues, but her favorite league was competing against her three sons.


Peg was born January 8, 1925 in Western New York State to William L. Newman and Nellie Snyder Newman. (She spent most of her youth with her grandparents Eli and Mattie (Thompson) Snyder.) On September 27, 1948 she married Robert J. MacRae Sr. “Bob” in Syracuse, NY and together had six children.


Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by husband, Robert J. MacRae Sr.; her brothers, Vernon L. Newman, Glenn W. Newman; and sister, Georgia Newman Taylor.


She is survived by her sister, Ruth Newman Jaquin; sons, Robert J MacRae, Jr. (Rubia), James M. MacRae (Diane), and Michael A. MacRae (Sheila); daughters, Nancy L. Zink (Jim), Sandra J. Auer (Jerry), and Sharon L. Mizelle (Charlie); 35 grandchildren, and 33 great grandchildren.


She will be remembered and dearly missed by all.
