Margie Raynor Castleberry died peacefully Friday at the age of 89. She was the daughter of George V. and Johnnie Parker Raynor of Four Oaks, NC. Margie began her nursing career after graduation from the School of Nursing at Highsmith Hospital in Fayetteville. As a part of her training, she chose to study Psychiatric Nursing at Dorothea Dix Hospital. After her graduation, she continued in Psychiatric Nursing for 12 years at Dorothea Dix followed by 20 years at Wake Medical Center. Margie was involved in the establishment of Ashby Hall, a psychiatric unit within Wake Medical Center where she was the supervising nurse. After retirement she continued to apply her talents in caring for the sick and needy, especially through her beloved church, Longview United Methodist Church, where she was a dedicated member for the past 60 years. Margie is survived by three sons, Steven Lloyd Castleberry of Raleigh, John David Castleberry and wife Mary of Pilot, NC; Jeffrey Parker Castleberry and wife Suzanne of Raleigh; four grandchildren, David Michael, John Anthony, Cameron Hardy and Jeffrey Parker, Jr. and her nephew. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years John L. Castleberry, Jr., her parents, sister Elgie, brother Marvin, half-sister Rachel Lee and half-brother Dexter Lee. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, March 8th in the Bryan-Lee Funeral Home Chapel, Raleigh. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 – 1:00 pm at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, Spoken Word Ministries of NC or the charity of one’s choice.
