Marguerite “Rita” Enid Kinsey

October 30, 1924 — July 30, 2020

RALEIGH Marguerite “Rita” Enid Kinsey passed away, as she lived, on her own terms on July 30, 2020. She was many things: brave, witty, resilient, curious, loving and an enthusiastic citizen of the world. She spent her long life pursuing adventure and cherishing her family and friends. She appreciated a lively party just as much as she enjoyed sitting quietly reading a good book. She would never say no to a good cup of tea, was a fierce bridge player and was always quick to strike up a conversation with anyone she met. She had a dry sense of humor and she loved the beach, live piano, and telling a good story. She would body surf with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and made every effort to keep up with the newest book, song, Broadway show, or movie. She rarely took ‘no for an answer and usually (always) had the last word. On October 30, 1924 Rita was born to Arthur Romney Carty and Juliet Owen Carty on the island of Anguilla. She was the youngest daughter of nine children, loved climbing trees and running the sandy beaches of her home in the West Indies. She spent her life living around the world while raising her family with her devoted husband, Robert Kinsey, whom she is now reunited with. They met in Costa Rica, then went on to live in El Salvador, Honduras, Peru, Hawaii, Trinidad, Puerto Rico and New Jersey, before settling down in Miami, FL, where they remained for over 40 years enjoying a full life of golf and bridge with wonderful friends and family. Their home was a popular stop-off for friends and travelers throughout the years. Her boundless spirit and stubborn nature has left many with entertaining stories and memories to share with others. Rita was preceded in death by her husband Robert Wayne Kinsey (1925-2005). She will be remembered and missed by her children, Pamela Kinsey-Barker and husband Chris, Brian Kinsey and wife Jody, and Lorna Biddle; grandchildren Jason Barker and wife Jenn, Brianna Barker Caza and husband Arran, Ashley Peterson, Jenna Hofwalt and husband Chuck and Robert Kinsey and wife Felicia; great-grandchildren Sabrina, Declan, Max, Alex, Vivienne, Robert (Beau), Luke, Aspen, and Alexa. Our family would like to thank the staff and residents at the Cardinal of North Hills in Raleigh, NC for their kindness and care. Arrangements are by Bryan-Lee Funeral Home of Raleigh.
