Marion Benton Pleasant, Iii

Marion Benton Pleasant III, 68, passed away peacefully, Saturday, September 23, 2023 at his home surrounded by family. Ben was born in Durham, NC and was the son of the late Marion Benton Pleasant II and the late Betty Talley Pleasant. In addition to his parents, Ben was preceded in death by his brother, Henry Pleasant.

Ben is survived by his wife, Janice Pleasant; step-daughter, Christina Harrelson and husband, Russell; grandsons, Cole and Parker Harrelson; nephew, Langdon Pleasant and wife, Maggie; and aunt, Doris Barnes as well as numerous loving cousins.

Ben graduated from Angier High School and then furthered his education at North Carolina State University, earning a bachelor’s degree. Ben worked for many years in the mortgage industry, first working at USDA for almost nineteen years, followed by employment with State Employees Credit Union where he worked until a few weeks prior to his death. Ben found immense support from his co-workers throughout his battle with both his lung transplant and most recently, cancer.

From his early years and on into adulthood, Ben was a lover of everything outdoors and an avid hunter. One of his hobbies was raising and racing homing pigeons. He also enjoyed working his dogs along with hunting both quail and rabbits.

Above all else, most important in Ben’s life was his strong commitment to the Lord. He lived every day and faced every challenge that came his way with an unwavering faith. He was truly a testament of God’s love and was a true Christian servant. He was a blessing to all who knew him and will surely be missed.

The family will receive friends from 11:00-12:30 on Wednesday, September 27, 2023 at Angier Baptist Church in Angier, NC. A service to celebrate Ben’s life will follow at 12:30 pm with the Rev. Thomas Allen officiating. Interment will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh, NC.

Flowers are welcome and may be delivered to Bryan-Lee Funeral Home in Angier. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Angier Baptist Church in his memory.
