Raleigh – Marjorie M. Townes, 87, died Tuesday, December 7, 2021. A native of Wake County, Marjorie was born July 7, 1934, to the late Reuben Leroy and Clara Ethel Tyson Morgan. She owned Townes Secretarial Service for many years before retiring. Her first love was music, starting at a young age playing piano. She used her talent to honor the Lord, as a church organist and choir director for many local churches. Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm Thursday, at Layden Memorial UMC Church, 2607 S. Wilmington St. Raleigh, NC 27603. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park. Marjorie is survived by her daughters, Teresa T. Parker and Lisa T. Elgin and husband, David; grandchildren, Benjamin Parker, Loren Parker, Krista Westbury and husband, Mitchell, and John Elgin and wife, Jenna and Jacob Elgin; great grandchildren, James and Eva Westbury; and a brother, Floyd Morgan and wife, Ann. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, John Townes and Robert Hough; brothers, Raymond and Nathan Morgan; and sisters, Lillie Grissom and Eva Waters. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Layden Memorial UMC, 2607 S. Wilmington St., Raleigh, NC 27603.
