Marvin Lee Jackson, Jr.

Visitation for Marvin Lee Jackson, Jr. who passed away on Tuesday, July 12, 2022, will occur from 9:00am till 12:00 noon on Monday, July 18, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home (831 Wake Forest Rd, Raleigh). Following the visitation, a graveside service will be held at Historic Oakwood Cemetery at 1:00 pm. Marvin is survived by nephew, David Warrick; great-nephew, Ben Warrick (Ale’); two great nieces (Eve, Maeva); step-daughter and son-in-law, Barbara and Patrick Jean; two granddaughters, Shelley Jean Tuttle (Jason) and Amy Jean Powell (Ryan); four great-grandchildren (Ava, Addy, Kenzie, Chase); and cousins, CN Taylor and Charles Taylor. He is predeceased by his parents, Marvin and Estelle; his sister and brother-in-law, Rebecca and Woody Warrick; and, as he always claimed, the love of his life, his wife Kathryn. A life-long Raleigh resident, Marvin, graduated from Broughton High School in 1957. In his youth, he played on Finch’s little league baseball team. Until recently, he would still meet with some of his team mates to reminisce about their experiences as part of that team. After high school, Marvin joined the Marines. Following his military service, he went to work for Gray and Creech Office Solutions. Then, in the late-1970’s, he started his own business, Graphic Contract Service, which he ran with his son-in-law and nephew for 30 years. Everyone who knew Marvin also knew that he was an ardent collector, focusing mainly on military memorabilia and anything NASCAR. He was truly an expert on Civil War history. He and Kathryn spent a lot of their travels, looking for antiques and historical artifacts to add to their collections, especially when they visited Virginia or Tennessee, Marvin also loved cars, owning two Corvettes in his early life, and was a member of the Corvette Club. He could sit for hours watching one of his favorite programs, Mecum Auctions, that featured so many of the classic cars that reminded him of his youth. As well, he could spend hours watching any NASCAR event. On several occasions, he and the guys would attend these races in person. These trips were a highlight for him and served to solidify his passion for the sport. Marvin was always “all about family.” He was especially devoted to his wife and lovingly cared for her as her health declined. His nephew as well as his two granddaughters remember him as kind, considerate, generous, and fun/funny to be around. Those who knew Marvin as a friend will agree that he was a loyal friend for life. He enjoyed helping others and went out of his way to do so. Marvin was a Christian and attended Providence Baptist Church where he served as a greeter for several years.
