RALEIGH– Mary Buffaloe Upchurch, 85, “Well done, good and faithful servant”, Matthew 25:21. Mary Buffaloe Upchurch died peacefully on September 10, 2016 at Pruitt Health after a long illness. Mary was born November 12, 1930 in Raleigh, NC; she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Viola Partin Buffaloe. Mary was a cheerleader and graduated from Garner High School in 1949. In 1954 she married the love of her life, Furman Upchurch. They lived on a tobacco farm in Raleigh. Mary retired from Carolina Power and Light Company after 30 years of service. She was a member of Holland’s United Methodist Church for 62 years, working in the church nursery and with the Methodist Women. Mary loved weeks spent at Myrtle Beach with family and vacationing with friends. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm Wednesday at Holland’s United Methodist Church, Raleigh. Burial will follow at Montlawn Memorial Park, Raleigh. Mary is survived by her daughter, Sherry Neal and husband, Jimmy; a grandson, Kristopher Neal; also many beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mary is preceded in death by her husband, Furman Upchurch; sister, Doris Petteway, brothers, Billy and Bobby Buffaloe. The family will receive friends 6-8 pm Tuesday at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Garner. The family would like to thank Pruitt Health, Hospice and caretakers, Diane Sorrell and Carla Dail for the wonderful care given to Mary. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Holland’s United Methodist Church, 9433 Ten-Ten Rd. Raleigh, NC 27603.
