Mary Evelyn Lee Hall On June 28, 2021, Mary Evelyn Lee Hall died peacefully in her sleep, moving on to her eternal life in the company of the saints. Mary was born on January 8, 1924 in rural Alabama to Edward Lee and Evelyn Baxley Lee, the fourth of their five children. After graduation from high school during World War II, Mary moved to Jacksonville, Florida to live with cousins and attend business college. She became a legal secretary and worked while attending college part-time. At the young adult class of First Presbyterian Church in Jacksonville, she met the associate pastor, Walter Hall, whom she married in September of 1947. Mary and her husband served Presbyterian churches in Mississippi, Tennessee, Florida, and North Carolina. In retirement, they returned to Florida. In 2003, Mary moved to Raleigh. Mary was kind and patient and loved to surprise her children with homemade gifts. She was a loving caregiver, caring for her parents, her father in law, and her husband towards the end of their lives. She was an accomplished cook and seamstress. She loved to spend time outdoors and delighted in gardening and observing the natural world. She especially enjoyed her volunteer work with children with mental disabilities in Florida and with people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease in North Carolina. Mary is survived by her daughter Mary Lee of Raleigh, her son Walter and his wife Carolyn, of Zavalla, Texas, and nieces and nephews in Alabama. She was buried in the family plot in Alabama a memorial service will be held on July 11 at 4:30 p.m. at West Raleigh Presbyterian Church. A service of Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, Raleigh.
