On April 27, 2023, heaven gained a new angel. Mary Weatherspoon passed away at the age of 74 after a courageous battle with cancer surrounded by her loved ones. Though it took its toll on her, she never lost her love of life and spunk. Mary never met a person she couldn’t talk to. Her pleasant demeanor was contagious, and she welcomed all with open arms.
The simplest pleasures brought Mary joy. Relaxing on her front porch with a cup of coffee, her nightly viewing of law and order, playing bingo until the sun rises, and spending time with her family. Family was always the most important thing to her, especially spending time with her grandchildren. Out of all the amazing things she was, being a nana was the best thing of all—according to her granddaughter.
One thing everyone loved about her was her feisty personality, mostly because her being so small it was nothing short of entertaining. She will be missed terribly but there is comfort that she is able to now be at peace with no pain and reunited with her late husband, Al.
Mary was preceded in death by parents Claudie and Helen Overstreet; Brothers Johnny, Tommy, Frank, and Wayne Overstreet. She is survived by her sons Allen (Deborah) Weatherspoon, Randy (Tina) Weatherspoon; Grandchildren Brandy and Blake Weatherspoon, Betty Nicole Adams (Michael); Brothers Otey and Bobby Overstreet; Sisters Margie Frazier, Shirley Gottfried, Frances Johnson; Great-Grandchildren Sydney, Adelynn, and Reese.
