Mary Rose Sadler

Mary Rose Harrison Sadler, 95, of Clayton, NC, passed away July 1, 2023 at Lawndale Manor in Garner, NC.

Mary Rose was born July 30, 1927, in Johnston County, NC, to the late Lovella Irene Jones Harrison and Eric Eugene Harrison. She was preceded in death by her husband of 33 years, Robert Ryland Sadler, Jr., who died in 2001; by siblings and their spouses Addie Belle Harrison Smith (Harold), Daisy Lee Harrison Woodard (Dub), Eric Moretti Harrison (Eloise); and niece Miriam Woodard Everett.

She was valedictorian of the Clayton High School Class of 1944. She served proudly as a member of the US Cadet Nurses Corp during WW II. Following graduation from the Rex Hospital School of Nursing in Raleigh, NC, in 1948, she worked

as staff nurse at the hospital. In 1952, she became a surgical assistant to Dr. Alex Webb in Raleigh where she served for 21 years until his retirement. She later became nurse consultant with the Department of Human Resources and served six years as Director of Nurses at Granville Community Hospital in Oxford, NC.

The Sadlers subsequently moved to Farmville, VA, where she worked with Home Health and then assisted her husband in his duties as administrator of Farmville Airport.

She is survived by nieces Helen Smith (Pam Hanna) of Cornelius, NC; Donna Harrison Gocke (Jim) of Raleigh; Betsy Woodard Garris (Max) of Raleigh; Jean Woodard Holcomb (Cecil) of Raleigh; Lori Harrison (Geoff Pyne) of Newberry, FL; and Judith Harrison Arrington (Lee) of Louisa, KY. She is also survived by fourteen great- nieces and nephews and twenty-two great-great nieces and nephews.

Mary Rose was a devoted and long-time member of First Baptist Church of Clayton, NC.

A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at First Baptist Church of Clayton, 411 N Fayetteville St, Clayton, NC 27520. Visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of the service. Internment will take place at Maplewood Cemetery in Clayton.
