HOLLY SPRINGS, NC - MaryAnn Collier Gaines, aged 78, passed away peacefully in her sleep on October 13, 2023, in Raleigh, North Carolina. In her final hours, surrounded by her loving family and the uplifting notes of gospel music, she was comforted and at peace. She lived a life filled with passion, education, and unwavering love for her family.

MaryAnn was an educator at heart, dedicating her life to teaching and inspiring countless students across a myriad of settings, from elementary classrooms to university lecture halls. Her commitment to the world of academia was evident not just in her role as a teacher, but also as a lifelong learner. She proudly held a Doctorate of Education (EdD) and often expressed how her academic journey enriched her life.

Outside the classroom, MaryAnn was known for her hosting of gatherings. Whether it was a holiday party or a cozy bridge game night with close friends, she ensured that everyone felt welcomed and cherished. Her love for bridge was surpassed only by her love for travel. Travelling in 4 continents, MaryAnn embraced the beauty and cultures of the world with open arms.

Above all, family was her cornerstone. She leaves behind her loving son, James Collier, her cherished daughter-in-law, Mary Osorno, and two adored grandchildren, Zara and Santiago Collier. Each of them was a source of immense joy and pride for MaryAnn. Many of her happiest moments were the simple ones, spent in the company of her grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

MaryAnn's legacy is one of love, education, and the power of human connection. She was not just a teacher by profession, but by nature, imparting wisdom, love, and kindness to all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her impact will live on in the hearts and minds of many.

A Celebration of MaryAnn’s Life will be held from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM on Wednesday, October 18, 2023, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home of Raleigh, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, NC 27604.

Flowers are welcome, or memorial contributions may be made in MaryAnn’s memory to a charity of your choice.
