RALEIGH - Matthew Fulton Betts of Raleigh, NC, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 13, 2025, at TerraBella North Ridge Assisted Living and Memory Care Facility at the age of 101. He was the loving husband of Eloise Haley Betts who passed away in 2023. They celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary in 2022. Together they had a long and happy life visiting family, traveling with friends, church activities and gardening. They always had a bounty of fresh and canned vegetables to share.
After his United States Army tour during WWII, Fulton moved to Raleigh and enjoyed a lengthy career and then retirement from Carolina Power and Light. During his retirement, he enjoyed his garden and was passionate about coastal fishing.
He is survived by his two sons, Steve (Jeannie), Donald (Gail); and one daughter, Nancy Frazier (Freddy); two grandsons, Matthew Betts (Kalylea), and Joshua Frazier; two great grandchildren, Faith Steele and James Betts.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Monday, January 20, 2025, at Bryan-Lee Funeral Home, 831 Wake Forest Road, Raleigh, NC 27604. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service, at the funeral home. Burial will occur in Montlawn Memorial Park with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Home Health Care, 3921 Sunset Ridge Road, Suite 102, Raleigh, NC 27607.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the love and care provided by Amedisys Home Health Care and TerraBella of North Ridge to both Fulton (Pops-Sugarfoot) and Elosie over the last 5 plus years. They became their second family offering excellent care and compassion. It was much appreciated.
